Business Cards
» Business cards are exchanged on the initial meeting at the very start.
» Have your business card printed in Spanish on one side and English on the other.
» Your hosts will consider this a thoughtful gesture.
» Business cards are viewed with great importance inChile. When receiving a card, do not put it into a pocket. Instead, hold it by the edges, read it thoroughly and comment on it before placing it in a business card case or holder.
Dress and Appearance
Business people in Chile value tradition and formality. Dress in a formal manner with a suit and tie of a dark, muted color. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum and should not be flashy. Casual attire is not acceptable for most business meetings, unless you’re invited to a client’s home for a casual meal. Shorts are not worn in public.
Business dress should be conservative, eliminating bright colors and busy patterns. Low heels for women with dark suits and typical dark suit with white shirt for men are the norm. Wearing lots of jewelry will make you appear vain in this country so select one or two conservative pieces only. Jeans and shirt are fine for public wear but you’ll rarely see adults wearing shorts in this country.
